A DIED HORSE.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWX CORRESPOND EST.] Christc burch, Wednesday. A most amusing episode, that will at once bring the Bertie Saverna story to your recollection, occurred yesterday. The Plumpton Park Coursing Company have instituted race meetings, the first of which was held yesterday afternoon. In the trotting race a brown mare was entered, which being unknown to the handicapper, received a very decent allowance. Something in her style of going an<l build aroused suspioion, and on close examination the animal was found to have been dyed. The inner hairs of the tail were white. The mare having sweated during the race, came in covered with grey spots. She was really a grey mare, which won a trotting race at Dunedin in 18S2. The owner had actually had the impudence to protest ag >inst the two horses that came in first, but when the swindle was discovered, animal and man both promptly disappeared. For some reason or other the club took no notice of the matter, of which there was much surprise. The mare was entered for another race at New Brighton to day, and at the Heathcote races.
