A FATAL ACCIDENT.
O.n' Tuesday afternoon a fatal accident oc curred at Woodside, on the Great South Koad. It appears that late in the afternoou of that day the servant man employed by Mr. John Carr, a farmer, waß bringing home a load of firewood. The loaded dray was left standing beside the gate while the man was opening it for the cart to pass, and it appears that a child, a girl about five years of age, had been climbing up on the cart. When the horse was started again the jolt of the cart threw her off, and she fell to the ground- Before the man could atop the horse the wheel had passed over the lower part of the body. She was carried into the house, and expired within half an hour of the accident. When the ".edieal attendant was called in he stated that no bones were broken, that probably the child had received internal injuries not indicated on the surface of the body, but his opinion was that death was largely due to the nervous shock and fright. There was only a red mark about a foot in length to be seen on the body. The residence of the parents is about half a mile from the Raglan Hotel. An inquest was to be held.
