LITERATURE, MUSIC, AND THE DRAMA.

Hiss Dobu Fletcher, the author of "Mirsge" and "Kismet," has written a new novel, which will be published by tbe Macmillans. _ A complete edition of The Li'e and Speeches of Mr. Bright," by Mr. Barnett Smith, is being issued by Messrs. H odder and Stoughton at a low price. Mr. K. D. Oldham, of the Geographical Survey of India, hae edited "A Catalogue of Indian Earthquakes from the Earliest Time to the find of A.I). ISG9," and a memoir "On the Thermal Springs of India," both by the late T. Oldham, LL.D. and F.R.S., which are published in the "Memoirs" of the Geological Survey of India. Messrs. John Long and Go. are about to publish a first series of "Notable Scottish Trials," by Mr. A. H. Millar, F.S.A. Scot., author of "History of Rob Roy," " Story of Queen Mary," &c. The trials have been selected so as to illustrate the development of modern jurisprudence, and they will include records of recent cases bearing upon trades •unionism, duelling, and forgery, which have not hitherto been brought together. The London correspondent of the Figaro, who is generally well informed on such points, announces as an accomplished fact the creation of a French permanent theatre in London. Messrs. Mayer and John Hollingshead, he states, have taken the Royalty Theatre, lately reopened by Mies Kate Santly, and have made arrangements for the establishment of a regular French company there. In that •• bonbonnicre capitonu<se de veloure et de soie" we are to have a winter season, for which Mesdames Sarah Bernhardt and Judic have been already engaged ; while the performance at the Gaiety will still go on during May and June. If this news is true, it ie eminently satisfactory. The great improvements which recent years have seen in English acting and stage managing, and the highor level of dramatic intelligence on tho part of audiences, will only be stimulated by by the installation of a regular French theatre in our midst. The following list of the works of the late Anthony Trollope. and the sums received by him, with the date of publication, will be read with interest:—The Macdermots of Ballycloram. 1547, £4S 6s 9d ; The Kellys and the O'Kellv's, 1848, £123 19< 5d ; La VendCe, ISSO, £20; The Wardeu, 1557, and Barchester Towers, 1557. £727 lls 3d ; The Three Clerks, ISSS, £200; Doctor Thome, 1858, £400 ; The West Indies and the Spanish Main, 1559, £250; Tbe Bertrams, 18D9, £400; Castle Richmond, IS6O, £000 ; Frainley Parsonage, 1861, £1000; Tales of All Countries, Ist Series ISol, 2nd Series, 1563, 3rd Series, IS7O, £IS3O ; Orley Farm. At the time of his death he had written four-fifths of an Irish story called The Land Leaguers, shortly about to be published ; and he left in manuscript a completed novel, called An Old Man's Love, which will be published by Messrs.
