IN SEARCH OF A WIFE.
At a recent meeting of the "Wrexham Board of Guardians the following singular letter, addressed to the woikhouse-master, was read : —"SlK, —I hope you will pardon me for writing these lines to you, but I may only state that I have no home. lam in lodging, bo my object is to ask could I have a tidy woman from your institution which would make me a tidy wife. lam in regular work, and am able to support' a wife; and I am sure that if you could assist me in having one I should feel happy. I enclose you postage stamp for reply, which I hope you will kindly let me know whether I can have one from your place or not, and on what condition. lam a steady person, and thirtytwo years of age. A reply would oblige, yours'truly,Wilmam Williams, Bank-street, Ponsonby, fonkey, Rnabon." The Chairman said it was a strange application, and a use of tho poor-law ho never heard of before. It was humourously suggested that tho master should write for a photograph of the lonely lodger and love-lorn applicant for a pauper bride, and the subject dropped.
