HORRIBLE SUICIDE ON THE RAILWAY.

A hokrible discovery was made in one of the London Metropolitan Railway Company's carriages at the Hammersmith station. Upon one of the trains which run from the Tower to Hammersmith reaching the latter station, one of the company's gasmen, upon looking into a third-olasß carriage, discovered in one of the compartments alone a well-dressed gentleman, who the man at first thought to be asleep, bat upon examination it was discovered that a horrible suicide had taken place. The gentleman was lying on one aide of the compartment, and on the seat opposite had been carefully placed his umbrella in the corner, and his hat and handkerchief on the seat, showing that he had deliberately destroyed himself. Upon the floor of the carriage was found a razor near a pool of blood, and the gentleman's throat was cut from ear to ear. The man was not quite dead when first found, but he was unable to utter a word, and. upon the inspector being informed of the occurrence the man was taken to. a hospital in the neighbourhood. So severe was the wound that he died within a quarter of an hour from the time that he was discovered in the carriage. The man was well-dressed, was apparently between 40 and 50 years of age, had a genteel appearance, and wore a good-sized grey beard.
