THE WEATHER.

The fine weather which we had on Monday changed at an early hour yesterday morning, when it began to blow strongly from the north-west. In the afternoon showers fell, and at night we had heavy rain. The furious N.W. gale whioh was experi esced here all last night and to-day has somewhat abated, but it is still blowing strong. None of the damage reported ia of a serious nature, and the shipping have escaped with one or two exceptions. The cutter Day's Bay, which went ashore, had about 300 kegs of powder on board, but these have been landed without suffering any damage, and the vessel is not as yet much injured. Greyjiodth, Tuesday. The river is flooded. A great quantity of rain has fallen. The bar is extremely rongh. Christohurch, Tuesday. A heavy N.W. gale prevailed this morning and afternoon, but no serious damage is reported. The barometer at Lyttelton is said to have fallen to 25.70, the lowest known for many years. Bdnedin', Tuesday. We have had all samples of weather, including hail and heat, with wind from all q'uarters of the compass to-day. Atpiesent, we are having it cold from the N.E., with rain and occasional hail. At Lake Wakatipu last night was the loaghest ever remembered. The glass was below 27 degrees from midnight to aix o'clock this morning. An extremely heavy thunderstorm raged, the peals shaking the buildings, and causing a good deal of alarm. The lightning was very vivid, and at times very heavy rain fell. Port Chalmers, Tuesday. The Plucky, tug, went out to-day to bring in the Soukar, bat there was no appearance of her. She must have been driven off the coaßt by the heavy northerly gale of last night. There was a very strong tide and heavy sea to-day. The barometer this morning had fallen to 28*44 from 29'38 last night.
