CORRESPONDENCE.

MR. REDMOND'S SPEECH. TO THE EDITOR. Sm,—This morning (9th), I read in the Herald, the speech of J. E. Redmond M.P., with well-nigh unmixed pleasure' Certainly, I wa* not surprised at it, as some were, as I knew something of the gentlemanly portion «f Irish politicians. In every sentence of the deliverance, save one I do most cordially cuneur; the exceptive one sentence is, that wo have given no attention to Irish affairs, have "neglected," whereas, it would seem, that during the entire of, this present Liberal Parliament, we have bestowed on Ireland vastly, sickenly too much attention (perhaps incorrectly) to the extraordinary neglect of English domestics. Baterag that slip, as I must deem it, the delivered speech was correct, sound, solid, good. He mentioned the late " Isaac Butt." He omitted to mention that Isaac Butt (an Irishman) was one of the greatest lawyers in the British Empire, and one of the most speakers in our House of Com* mons. His programme, quoted, seems wise. The quotation from Sir George Grey—the greatest of all the colonial Governors—was apposite, capital, instructive. Sir, selfseekers here and their bribed dupes, you know, have pre-judged the case, hence prejudice. Colonial self - government, exactly like ours in Australasia, the desideratum for old Hibernia. That is all, Sir, as it seems to me. Then what ails the alarmists ? Of course, blackleg assassins we speedily, effectually, beautifully hang, one by one, as just now lately, you know.—lam. &c, W. E. Sadler.
