[Received Ostober 9,8 p.m.] NEW SOUTH WALES PARLIAMENT. Sydnby, October 9. The New South Wales Parliament j,was opened to-day by the .Governor, who, in his speech on the occasioii, announced that a Bill would duced to regulate the sale and occupation of the lands of the colony, and, among other important measures Bills for the amendment of the law regarding libel and contempt of Court, and for the regulation of the Civil Service, and for the amendment of the Postal Act and bankruptcy law. His Excellency's speech referred to the important Annexation Conference to be held here at the end of next month, and announced that railway construction was making rapid progress, and that, in addition to 1300 miles now open for traffic, 5 548 miles were now in course of construction, and that surveys had been, directed for light railways to act as feeders to the main lines.

[Received October 10,12.55 a.m.J Evening. The address-ih-reply to the from the Throne was agreed to this evening by both Houses of the Legislature without discussion.

[Received Octobor 9,12.55 p.m.] THE EXCITEMENT IN TASMANIA. Hobart, October 9. The excitement in Launceston oyer the rejection of the Government Railway Bill by the Legislative Council still continues. Effigies of the Hon. F. H. Grubb, M.L.C., and Mr. Z. Hart, member of the House of Assembly, have been burnt in front of the Launceston Town Hall by an excited mob. Much indignation, has also been shown in this city, and in response to a largely-signed requisition, the members of both Houses for Hobart have resigned their seats.

SUGAR FOR NEW ZEALAND.

Mauritius advices to September 13 report the following clearances of sugar cargoes for New Zealand ports:—Lyttelton, 375 tons ; Dunedin, 435; Auckland, 300. The following are the loadings:—Por Dunedin, 475 tons; for Lyttelton, 350.
