OXIDE OF LEAD IN SAUSAGES.
——«> |BY TELEGRAPH.—I'BESS ASSOCIATION. J Donedin, Tuesday. At the Police Court to-day, the charges against various butobers for selling adulterated saußages was dismissed. The prosecutor explained that the charges were brought principally to let the public know that colouring matter was used. The use of colouring matter was proved, bnt the Act is so worded as to render proof of knowledge on the part of the seller extremely difficult, and His Worship was doubtful if he could have convicted. The matter used was Armenian bole, and the analyst (Professor Black) said he had found that there was a quarter grain of oxide of lead, or red lead, and a little over six grains of oxide of iron, to the lb. of saveloys.
