ATTACK BY A HIPPOPOTAMUS.
TriE_ Plymouth Western Morning News received, via Madeira, from a correspondent on the West African Coast, a telegram conveying intelligence of a casualty by which two officers of her Majesty's ship Stork and a civilian lost their lives. The Stork, Commander Blennerhasset, while on her way to St. Paul de Loanda, called at Mayucnba River.; and a sporting' trip, in which the officers wera to participate, was arranged by Mr.Prenalau, a factory agent, who, with Commander Blennerhasset, Lieutenant Henry Leeke, and Mr. Anderson, surgeon of the Stork, were "together in a boat in the river when they were attacked by a hippopotamus. The animal had been wounded, and made a furious assault on the boat, which, notwithstanding the strenuous efforts of its occupants, was capsizcd. The commander was Baved, but Lieutenant Leeke, Dr. Anderson, and Mr. Preuslan were drowned. Lieutenant Leeke served on board the Achilles during the Egyptian war. Dr. Anderson was making his first voyage as a naval surgeon.
