U —At the last Melbourne Cup meeting The Assyrian started for the Melbourne Stakes on the first day, and was unplaced. E. M.—Border Calefy br c, foaled 1832, by Annandale, dam Margery, by Voltaire. Voltaire by Blacklock—Phantom; Overton—Walnut. A.K.—We cannot say the exact amount won by Chester during his racing career, but are of opinion that Grand Flaneur won the most money in stakes. Sport.—lf you backed Martini-Henri after 1.30 p.m. on September 1, you-are not liable for the wager, for the colt was uot in the race at the time the wager was m-ide. Subscriber.—ln 1848, a horse falsely described as Running Rein, by Saddler, that came in first for the Epsom Derby, but was subsequently proved to be a four-year-old colt called Maccatoeus (afterwards ZiDoni), by Gladiator, and was disqualified, Orlando getting the stakes. It has been stated that Grlailiatenr, who won the Derby in 1565, was a very old looking three-year-old, but further than the remark being made, nothing mor& was done in the matter.
