MELBOURNE GRAIN MARKET. Melbourne, October 2. The Melbourne manager of the National. Mortgage and Agency Company, New "Zealand (Limited), reports of the local grain market as follows : Wheat quieter, but steady, at 4s 8d to 4s 9d. Malting barley, 5s to 6s 2d. Quotations nominal. New Zealand oats in fair demand, at 3s to 3s Id for feeding, and 3s 2d to 3s 3d for milling qualities. New Zealand oats, under bond, 2s 2d'to 2s sd.

NEW SOUTH WALES REVENUE. Sydney, October 2. The New South Wales revenue for the quarter ended September 30 amounted to £1,390,000, being a decrease of £360,000 compared with the corresponding quarter of last year. The revenue for the year amounted to £6,100,000, being a decrease of £552,000 compared with the revenue for the previous twelve months. The receipts from land show a decrease of £90,000 ; those from other source's are well maintained. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE IN A , BANK. Melbourne, October 1. An alarming tragedy occurred at I the Bank of Victoria this afternoon, j Harry Thomas, a customer of the branch of the bank at Heathcote, where he carries on business as an auctioneer, entered the office and mounted a table in the centre of the chamber, shouting, "Revenge!" and then, drawing a revolver, attempted to commit suicide, first firing' s,t the ceiling, and then at his head, inflicting a serious wound, which, however, is not expected to prove fatal.

Melbourne, October 2. Harry Thomas, who attempted to commit suicide at the Bank of Victoria in this city yesterday, had a grievance against the manager of the branch bank at Heathcote.

Melbourne, October 2. Richard Corbett was brought up at the Police Court to-day, and committed for trial, on a charge of robbing the Commercial Bank of Australia on the night of the 18 th ult. The case will be heard at the Supreme Court on the 15 th inst.

At a meeting of the Melbourne Presbytery to-day, Dr. Morrison tabled a motion declaring that the resolution passed by the members of the Scots Church at a meeting held last Wednesday, deciding to secede from the Presbyterian Church of Victoria, and revert to the position previous to the act of union, was irregular and ultra vires.
