HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

« A meeting of the Hospital Committee was held yesterday morning at the Hospital. Present: Mes3rs. Msckechnie (in the chair), Bull, J. M. Clark, and Dando. Drs. Haines and Richardson were also present. Ward Tables and Fomioatisghods«. —A letter was received from the Government authorising the purchase of three ward tables as requested by the committee. The Colonial Secretary wrote* sanctioning the erection of a fumigatint;-house, and added that the Inspector of Hospitals (Dr. Grabham) would shortly visit Auckland to inspect the Hospital, when he would inquire into and report on thfc question of a fumi-gating-house, and other matters connected with the institution. Filthy Clothes.—The Governor of the Gaol wrote, complaining of the filthy state { of the clothes sent to the Gaol from the Hospital to be washed.—There being no appliances at the Hospital' to do the washing, it wasagretd to ask the Gaol authorities whether they had "the necessary appliances for doing the washing, so as to make the work of the prisoners less objectionable than hand-washing. If these articles have not already been procured for the Gaol, it was resolved that the Government be asked to provide for them. Ths House Surgeon re- , ported that the clothes were not any worse than the clothes in the Hospitals at home. Drunkenness.—A man named Jolm Collins, an inmate of the Refuge, who was reported for drunkenness, was, after inquiry, yarned that he would be discharged on a repetition of the offence. \ Want of Room.—The Hospital and both Refuges*were reported to be full. It was aSded that several cases had to be turned in consequence of the insufficiency of accommodation. Students. — The House Surgeon (Dr. Bond) wrote suggesting that arrangements might be made, a? in other Hospitals, for medjeal students to attend the institution and'^ ur aue their studies. I Dietary Scale.—Dr. Bond submitted a .dietary scale for the consideration of the committee.— It was agreed that this question I should stand over till the vist of Dr. Grabham. [
