OTAGO CRICKET ASSOCIATION. .

[BY TELEGRAPH,—PBESB ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, Sunday. Tiie Otago Cricket Association met at Winstone on Saturday evening. A satisfactory balance-Bheet waa presented. It was mentioned that, during the coming season, two teams, one the Incgnito, from Sydney, andanother from Tasmania, would be likely to visit Dunedin. The prospects of the coming season are excellent, as neaily all cluba in and around Dunedin have intimated their intention of joining. In anewer to a letter forwarded to Melbourne and other large colonial towns, particulars regarding the various grounds were received, and went to show that Dunedin has the least area of public ground used for cricket, and that every other city was more liberally treated by their corporation. Mr, Maitland was re-elected President, Messrs. Cohen, and Rose, Vio-Presideate.

MEETING OF CRICKETERS.

FORMATION OF AN ASSOCIATION. A well-attended meeiing of oricketera was held in the United Service Hotel on Saturday evening, in response to an advertisement signed by Mr. W. \V. Robinson, to consider a letter he had received from the Sonth in regard to the proposed visit of a team of the Wandering Cricket Club, of Christchurch, to Auckland during the Christmas holidayfl. The gist of the letter was a proposal to play three matches with three of the leading clubs. The following clubs were represented at the meeting: —Auckland, North Shore, Our Boys, United, Krcelsior, Alpha, and Gordon dabs. Mr. G. Lankham, sen., was called .to the chair. He said the meeting had been called to consider a letter which had be6n received by Mr. Robinson from the Secretary of the Wandering cricketers. Tne letter was read. It stated that they would be about three months in Auckland, but this, it was explained, was manifestly an error and meant three weeks. The Chairman said this club waa a sort of Zingari club, a combination of good players from all the Chriatchurch clubs, and might be looked upon almost as a representative team, and what they asked was to play three separate clubs in Auckland. It was for the meeting to say whether, they wonld play three clubs or select three elevens. There were rarioua waya to consider the letter. —Mr. Robinaon said that possibly all present did not understand what the team waa. They wanted no expenees, and were only coming up on a holiday trip.—Mr. MaoCormick pointed out that they could not play six days, they could not get the time, and he suggested that the ] visitors should play one match here, one in Waikato, and one in Northern Wairoa. — Mr. Biudon asked whether it would not be possible to get Canterbury to Bend a representative team ?—The. Chairman said he would like that best, but that was not the scope of the present letter.—Mr. Bindon moved, "That this meeting does not see ita way to accept Mr. Chapman's proposal, as no club would be able to put a sufficiently strong team in the field during the week, except on Saturday. It would be glad, however, to play two matches, choosing two teams of about equal strength from all the clubs, and would endeavour to arrange a country match." —Mr. Robinson seconded the resolution, and it waa agreed to.— The Chairman suggested that, as there was such a large meeting, they should make the commencement of a cricket association. It was the largest meetiDg of cricketers he had attended, and although it was not called for this purpose, some steps might be taken in this direction.—Mr. Robinson said that was partly his object in calling the meeting, but Mr. Bindon said he did not think they shonld form an association at this meeting, as it was not called for that purpose. They however, consider rules.—Mr. Buttle moved, "That, in the opinion of this meeting, it is desirable that a cricket association be formed."—This was seconded by Mr. Bindon, and carried. —Mr. ijindon then moved, "That a committee be formed to draft rules, such committee to consist of two delegates from each club desirous of joining the association, and that the Secretary, Mr. MacCormiok, be authorised to communicate with the various club 3, requesting them to appoint dol-f»ates to attend a-meeting to be held at the United Service Hotel, at eight o'clock next Saturday evening. "—The motion was carried.
