LIME APPLICATION TO LAND

Suppiejieniing my recent remarks upon the renovation of deteriorated volcanic soils, I wish to distinctly say .that the lime known as hydraulic is unsuitable for agricultural purposes by admixture with the soiL The presence ot silica in hydraulic lime gives it the power of settling under water which is not required. The silica combines a portion of the lime proper, depriving it of its caustic properties, hence the better thehydraulic properties of the lime the worse it is as an application to laud. The lime soitsd for land i 3 common caustic or fat lime, and I believe is obtainable from Whaiigarei. : H. S. A.
