THE GOLDFIELDS.

F A N ?u (T ? Aroha >— M *- P- Ferguson writes that he has received the most promising reports from the party he put on to prospect for the Premier reef; in fact, he states that gold is known to h»ve : been got in the ground, and that he hopes shortly to be able to report that it has been found.

Dab win. — The mine manager reports under date 22nd instant, that the shaft isdown 123 feet; that the country continues favourable, and that another small 4-inch leader has been intersected in sinking, the quartz from which looks well, but that he had not seen any gold in it.

Heko (Te Aroha).—A report from Mr. P. Ferguson, dated 24th instant, is to hand, that the men he put oa are breaking oat quartz from the reef where they got gold ; that he intends to have a trial crushing as soon as the battery can be had, asd that if it turns out as well as he anticipates, facilities for transport can easily be procured either in the shape of a shoot or by patting in a lower drive on the reef, so that the quartz could be delivered into the county trucks direct from the workings. ' Wekahiko (Te Aroha). — The manager reports :—I have been taking out very good quartz, /which I believe will crush very well, for I can see a large amount of gold in the stone, thickness of reef about three feet average. The reef which comes in on the hangingwall portion of the lode I have been working on looks very well. I can see a good deal of gold in the stone. I am now engaged in stoping out quartz. Success.—The manager reports :—For the week there is bnt little to report from the mine. The rise is going on steadily, with but little change. The reef at present is split up since passing another of the mineral veins, but continues to carry prospects of gold.. On the hangingwall the stone is making more regular and likely looking for gold. .; Detacher Sqtjadros (Uoromandel). The manager reports :—I am still working on the surface, so aa to cut the reef in several places. I have traced it over 100 feet, and am prospecting it thoroughly, both stone and mullock, on both of which I find: good prospects. I think of giving it a further trial before I put in a lower level. >V

Deep Level Ckoss.—There is a splendid olasß of country at the 610 feet level, and the face is weeping slightly. At No. 5 level the reef improves as driven seaward, and I shall be surprised if gold is not seen soon. Caledonian and Golden. Crown exhibit no change. The manager of the latter mine says smoke can be seen coming from the crevices. Mamnee.,—About 12 feet of the cross-lode wer& broken down in the drive at No. 4 level to-day. Gold showed very freely in dabs and colours. The brauchea together would-average about nine inches quartz.
