CRICKET CLUB MEETINGS.

WEST END. The annual business meeting of the above club took place last night at the rooms of the Young Men's Christian Association. Thereweire a good number of members pre-' sent. 'Mr A. Dcvore took the'chair, and in that position made many useful and practical] suggestions re the.game of cricket, particularly on the advantages and' need of good fielding. . Mr. Devore also, to stimulate the, members to increased efforts in this direc-' tion, promised two bats as tioplii'es for the best fielder'', in each eleven of the club.. The annual reports, which wero of a satisfactory nature, wero read and adopted. The results of last season's play have already appeared in these' columns. The presentations, which were made by tho Chairman, were as follows :—-Mr. j, Arneil taking a bat and ball for the highest batting and bowling average in tho First Eleven; Mr. D. Berry a bat and Mr. Voruey a ball,: for the highest batting, and bowling averages in the Second. The election' of officebearers then took phce, with the following result: President, Mr. F. Battley; Vice-Presidents, Messrs. T. Macky, sen., and 'A. Devoro; Secretary, Mr. F. Mitchell; Treasurer, Mr. ' \V. ■ Baker; Secretary, Second Eleven, .Mr. S. iiaker ; committee: Messrs. Theo. Cooper,' Dr. , L»awsoh, T. Macky, J. Arnoil, and C. B. King: The following, new members were elected: Messrs; Fowler, J. Lawry, D. Tholull, Goudie, Young, and Hoffmann; honorary member,. Mr. Theo. Cooper. It was decided to have practice on the next two Saturdays, and open up the season on'Satur-' day, 13th October, with a two-days' match, First Eleven v. 22 colts.' The meeting closed' with a, unanimous vote Of thauks to tho Chairman, also for bis gift; to.the club.

AUCKLAND UNITED. The annual meeting the Auckland United C.C. wab held at btie United Service Hotel last evening. Tfiero was a large attendance of members. Mr, Mumford occupied tho chair. M(.s.sr9. \Vm. Porch, P. Schofield, Leahy, Sutherland, Johnson, Hulme, Rosa, Brighton' were elected membera. Judge Fenton was re-elec'.ed President, and Captain Lambert, Messrs. C. A. Harris, A. E. Whitaker, and H. Atkins, Vice-Presi-dents. Mr. C. E. MacCcrmick was reelectod Secretary and Treasurer. Committee : Messrs. Mumford, Tedtro, F. Dufaur, Yates, McKinney, Bucklo. The Seccetary (Mr. C. MacUormick) read tho report, as follows : —Tho club had a very fair season, considering that during the fust half of the season it was much demoralised by the absence of a number of the beet iner> on the Southern trip.- Twelve .matches were, played—five beina won, fivo drawn, and two lost. Four out of the' live draws were moral victories for the club, and the other was very even. Tho club played Waikato, Northern Wairoa, and Thames during the eeason. In batting Testro is highest in the avciagos, both he and Yates having gone up with a. rush at tho end of .tho season. Yates and C. MacCorinick- comes next, while McKii.ney, Mumford,'and Jet vis have also done wel.. It has been impossible to get a detailed account of tho bowling; but A. MacCornnck has taken the most wickuts, with L. MelJrum next. Mr. A. E. Whitaker, Vice-President of tho club, presented a bat for the highest aggregate- during the season, and a ball for the greatest number of wiekuts-taken. The bat was won by.C MacCormick, with an aggregate of 222; and the ball by A. MaoCormick, with 19 wickets. —The report was adopted. A vote of thanks was given to the officers of the past season, and also to Mr. A. E. Whitaker for the presentation of a bat and ball as prizes during the eeason.
