KAWHIA.

The Government steamer Hinemoa : came in here on Sunday moroing, the 16th instant, bringing three M.H.K.'s on a visit to tho new township, viz., Messrs. Turnbull, Shrirnaki, and Daniel, who expressed themselves very delighted with the fine harbour and surrounding scenery. The steamer left for the South, at about five o'clock the same day. Very few natives vera iu the neighbourhood, but there were a good many Europeans who came, to see the steamer.

Messrs. Langley Bros, are erecting a nice honse on the Government reserve, to cost about £400. I am' not able to say when the sale of the township allotments will take place, and no one about here knows anything' about the matter. I believe the Messrs'. Langley have a protective right from the Government, or they would not A petition, numerously signed, has been sent iiway to the Native Minister, to ask his help in getting the establishment of a Post Office here, and Messrs. Langley's store has been proposed as the best place for it. There are plenty of fine fish to be caught in the harbour just now. The mullet are of a very fine quality, and the natives catch a good many. The s.s. Irishman was up the harbour on Monday, 17th. Three or four vessels come in every week. The natives are very excited. There is to to be a large meeting of natives this day (Saturday) re the state of affairs here. All are very anxious to hear what they intend doing next.—]o\vn Correspondent, September 22.] ,
