KAWEIA.
.■The Government s.s. Hinemoa was in here on Wednesday, the 12th instant, laying buoys ; and a parky went ashore to arect a beacon. This was pnt up at the South Head, where probably a considerable township will eveutually be formed. I hear on good authority that Captain Swann, of Aotc-a, has been appointed the pilot for this harbour. Probably the Government will ereat a house . for the accommodation of the pilot and his family, which are numerose. When Captain Fairchild came in here it was at low-water, and there was 24 feet of water on the bar then, so it is evidently as safe an entrance as any on the west coast. The Hinemoa proceeded to Itaglan ou Wedresday nipht. i / The natives here are planting poiatoetwith a will. A good quantity of wheat and oats have been sown here also this season, A number of Maoris, who were employed on ! the Kawhia roadworks here, have returnedi home,—[Own Correspondent, Sept. 17.]
