THE AUCKLAND GAS COMPANY (LIMITED) beg to call the attention of their customers and tho public generally to the quality of the Products manufactured at their Works in Auck- ' 1 land. L GAS.—They have much pleaeuro in referring to the high standard of this article, us determined recently by the Engineer t) tho City Council. A report uuon the quality of the Gas, upon tests mado by the Engineer, was brought up by the Streets Committee and laid before tho Council, at their meeting held on the 30th ultimo. The report stated—" The result showed that the quality of tho gas was equal to 39.80 candles. On examination nf the Couipany'3 Book (record of tests) it showed that THE GAS IN NO OaSB WAS UNDER 18 CANDLES, WHICH IS A HIGH STANDARD." COKE.—This article is now of a high class, being - very free from stone and clinker to an extraordinary 1 degree. As their Coke is not now liable to fly, consumers may uso it in open registers with much plea- : ""GOVERNORS, OR REGULATORS FOR GAS.-The ' Company avail thomselves of this opportunity to refer to a physical difliculty in the Supply of Gas. Coal Gas being lighter than air, the pressure increases at the burners at the rate of about one inch per hundred i, feet of elevation. Tho most suitable pressure js less than one inch. It follows that a large proportion of y the City is subject to an excess of pressure in its gas I- supply. The Company succoidod, about- ten years I- since, notwithstanding most determined opposition, 1. in getting the City Council to adopt tho use of governors on the public lamps. Tho matter was then, as again last month, teferred to a Committee of tho - Council, who, after testing the lnmpe in the streets I for themselves, ordered the use of tbe governors to bo ,j inserted in the contract with tlie Gas Company. Tho a Company, in consideration of the saving from waste, agreod to reduce the price and put in larger burners. The continuous use of the3e instruments has been provided for on each occasion of tho ronowal of tho ijt contract, to the mutual ndvautago of the ratepayers L and the Company. L " The City Council were lately led to believe from representations made to them that tbo uso of governors caused a bad light. This charge was investigated T, last month by the Streets Committee, tho Company 5. having at their request removed the leaulator? from some of the lamps. Tho Committee recommendod 10 tho Council to have them replaced and retained in the , t contract. Tho Engineer reported, after testing the '. gas with and without regulators—" To take off tho i regulators would be to reduce the light of tho street i_ lamp 3 ONE-THIRD from wlmt they are at. present. and to iucreaso tho consumption NEARLY „ DOUBLE." u Tho Company have sold many hundreds of these j. instruments to consumers, for uso in dwelling-houses, and have added thereby to tho pleasure and profit of every customer who could bo induced to adopt them.
