'• WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL e VERSUS LOCAL ROAD BOARDS. e TO THE EDITOR. 0 Sin, —I have read with interest the several S , letters re Waitcmat:i County Council appearing ill your valuable paper. Some of s f the questions at issue deeply affect and 'j underlie our whole system of local selfgovernment. There can be little doubt ° about the widespread dissatisfaction with our ■J county system. But there are districts and . districts. Anyone acquainted with the Lake Takapuna, however wedded to the " county system, must admit that for years ; ' past it has been petted and pampered. 0 Whatever the tource, it possesses the open " steame to treasures beyond the reach of the ? poor district of the struggling and neglected settler. Let the country settlers be united, J and,, demauu the suspension of thie Counties Act. A petition, signed by two-thirds of the ratepayers of any riding, will secure their " complete emancipation, and place the power ' in the hands of the local Road Boards, to whom it properly belimgs.—lam, &c, 3 Settlkk.
