EXPLANATION OP THE CHART. I TM. diifram shows the weather over temperate latitudes in Australia and Now Zealand. Tlie dotted lines or ihobaßS connect equal readings of the barometer at 0 a.m. on the above date, and thus indie*,to the general circulation of the atmosphere, the wind always- following these lines, changing Its direction at: they change, and increasing in force according to the amount of difference of barometer which they express. The arrows fly with the wind, which always blows In a contrary direction to the movement of the hands of a clock, round the area of man barometer, and with the clock hands round a now barometer or cyclonic area. Changes of weather chiefly arise frosn the eastward progress of these latter disturbances, at the :rato of 300 to 600 mHes in 24 hours. All local deflections of tlio Isobars, duo to tho shape of the land, are omitted. SYNOPSIS OF THE WEATHER. New Zealand : Hish pressure all over, and fine weather; light Westerly winds. Australia: High pres, sure area over S-uth and West ; N.W. winds ; light showers at Portland. Barometers : New' Zealand—Russell, 30 4 : Wellington, 30'3 ; Bluff, 30*3.
