EXPLANATION OP THE CHART. I TM. diifram shows the weather over temperate latitudes in Australia and Now Zealand. Tlie dotted lines or ihobaßS connect equal readings of the barometer at 0 a.m. on the above date, and thus indie*,to the general circulation of the atmosphere, the wind always- following these lines, changing Its direction at: they change, and increasing in force according to the amount of difference of barometer which they express. The arrows fly with the wind, which always blows In a contrary direction to the movement of the hands of a clock, round the area of man barometer, and with the clock hands round a now barometer or cyclonic area. Changes of weather chiefly arise frosn the eastward progress of these latter disturbances, at the :rato of 300 to 600 mHes in 24 hours.
