The discontinuance of the Contagions Diseases Acts (writes the United Service Gazette of July 21) has already produced the results desired". During the four weeks in which. the Acts have ceased to be in feme the medical returns from military hospitals prove that contagious diseases have increased trom 11 to IS per thousand. Mr. Stinsfeld ami his bsiiid of ladies are to be sincerely congratulated on this interesting statement. In one short month disease had increased at the rate of about 70 per cent. Time as yet is young, but as it advances the <j'<l Btit-j of things that existed in the days of unrestrained immorality will be restored, and the jubilant Stanafehiites may;! rest and be thankful when those immeasurable results 1 , are attained. There, were only two prisoners in the lockup last night—a man and. woman—both for drunkenness.
