The Czar of Russia and King Christian were entertained to-day at lnnch by Mr. Gladstone on board his yacht. Mr. Gladstone sailed later in the day fqr the coast of Norway. NATIVE WAR IN ASHANTEE. London, September 19, News has been received from the West Coast of Africa that tribal hostilities have again broken out in Ashantee. A severe battle, has been fought at Coomassie, resulting in the defeat of : the adherents of King Oalcalli, who suffered great slaughter, and has been compelled to retreat from the capital towards the country occupied by the Tamanis, one of the tribes who are opposed to the king. O'Donnell was brought up to-day at the Bow-street Police Court, and charged with the murder of Carey at Port Elizabeth, in July last. Some preliminary evidence was taken, and the case was remanded.
