THE IRISH QUESTION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—-This questiop, bo prolific in producing religietis and political rancour, demands the calm consideration of every one who wishespeace and goodwill to his fellow man. No doubt. Mr. Redmond wishes to do good to his fellow countrymen,: but his mission, to my mind, is useless. It. is only draining money from the colony, aad in many instances from those who can ill afford to give it. It i 3 alike a waste of Mr, Redmond's eloquence and the subscribers' cash. The only cure for the troubles of Ireland is emigration, but the Irish peasantry and those who wish to rale them object to this. Why ? Do they think that absence will make tkem forget the old sod ? Do any Irishmen in America pr the colonies fprget the Green Isle ? Or do they regret leaving it ? Have they not bettered their position by so doing ? Let any one whose friends are agriculturists at home compare their present positions with his who has been. a few years in these colonies, and he will see the folly of obstinately maintaining a useless struggle when the hand of Providence plainly points to emigration. The English Government has offered a large sum to aid Irish emigration, and a Catholic bishop has gone to the United States, to collect funds to supplement the Government subsidy. Why should not the money Mr. Redmond collects be given solely for this purpose, instead of maintaining the useless contest of the Land League ? As it was in bygone centuries so it is now with human beings. "My people do not consider/' saith the Lord. If my brethren qf the Faith would Only consider the difference between affairs at home and abroad with lis, and, act upon a, conscientious verdict, they would save, their money to send for their countrymen and not waste it upon mistaken sentimentality.— I.am ( &c., A Roman Catholic. Picton, Marlborough, Sept, 5.
