SHIPPING DISASTER

Leonards, bound to New Zealand -with immigrants, foundered in the Channel after being in collision. with, another vessel All. the passengers kn& crew of the St. Leonards have beeii landed at Dartmouth. .

Evening. The ill-fated ship St. ILcoE&rds, Which foundered in the Channel off Dartmouth, -was only one day oof, having left on the 15tli inst; The vessel with which she came info collision was the Cormorants It. is feared that the latter is severely injured* bnfc nothing is definitely known regarding the extent of her injuries. September 18. The St. Leonards sank within a very short time after collision with the Cormorant. The emigrants were nofc. able to save anything. THE STTNKKN SHIP. The ship St. Leonards, which ia recorded above as having been in collision with the Comjorant, arid t<3 having foundered from the damage done to her, was an old Auckland visitor, but it ia now some years since she last visited here. She was a fine iron S ~*P 1053 tons, and upon each occasion that, aho came here she gave an excellent account of herself as. & fast sailer under canvas. She was then owrie# by Messra. Shaw, S.avilJ, and Co., and at the time; of the disaster she was sailing under the flag of the Shaw, Savill f and Albion Cotapany.
