ABBOTTS OPERA HOUSE.
A version* of Mr. Charles Eeade'a novel, " Never Too Late to Mend," dramatised by Mr. Lachlan McGowan, was produced at this theatre last night. Mr. E. B. Russell as Tom Robineon, Mr. McGowan as Isaac Levi, Mr. Lisaant as George Fielding, Mr. D. C. Robertson as William Fielding, Mr. J. J. Welsh as Crawley (in the first act) and the Rev. Mr. Eden (in the acts following), Mr. Barry O'Neill as Farmer Merton, Mr. Saville as Meadows, Miss Lucy Ashton as Susan, Miss Greenlees as Joseph, Miss Charpeutier as Ophelia Mer.dows, and Mrs. McGowan as Nan. The piece was well put on the stage, and well performed. This play belongs to those sensation society dramas which hold the stage by virtue of its strongly marked characters and affluence of romantic incident. The audience was numerous and appreciative. Mr. McGowan as Levi, Mr. Welsh ae Mr. Eden, and Mr. D. C. Robertson as Jacky (in the third act) were much applauded. The performance was satisfactory, and will bo repeated this evening and to-morrow.
