LATEST WELLINGTON NEWS.

[IJY. TELEGRAPH. CORRESPONDENT.] WELLmotONJ Monday. CABINET MEETING. An the members of the Miqistry (including Mr. Oliver) ate expected to assemble at Wellington the day after to-morrow to deal, in Cabinet with several matters of grave \ importance which cannot conveniently be | delayed, and which cannot properly be dealt with except by a full Cabinet. These will include the decision as to. which Min- ! ister shall represent New Zealand at the approaching Australasian Conference relative to the Pacific Island annexation ; taking steps preparatory to the new Bankruptcy Act coming into force, including the appointment of official assignees; finally reviewing and deciding upon the' case of George Longhuret, and other matters of public import. MR. fiRYCE AND MAJOR KEMP. The news received to-day concerning Mr. BryCe's interview with Major Kemp ia -considered specially satisfactory, as implying the removal of another incipient Dative difficulty. Major Kemp has been behaving excellently weil for some time past, since his outrageous display of turbulence and lawlessness compelled the Government to remove him from the list of assessors, and it was determined that when Mr. Bryce met him, " Bygones should be bygones" if he conducted himself properly. This was duly acted upon, and judging from the official account received of the interview, there seems every reason to anticipate that restored cordiality between the Government and this loyal and faithful chief will npt again be disturbed. THE NEW ACTS. Strenuous exertions are being, used to get the new Acts printed and issued as soon as possible. The Government printers are working hard, and other departments complain they can get nothing done at the printing office, because the statutes block the way. There has been the recollection, however of the frightful grumbling and wrong produced by last year's delay, and so every effort, is being made to bring out the Acts with all practicable expedition. A large number are alieady complete, and a comparatively brief period will see them all out.
