LORD ST. LEONARDS AND HIS WIFE.
In' the Divoro? Division on Feb. 6, 6ir Jamea Ilannen had before him the case of Sv. Leonards St. Leonards. There were two suits, which had been consolidated. In the fiwt j Lord St. Leonards prayed [or restitution of conjutpil rights, aud in her answer zhec'.iarged | lior husband with committing adulter/, and prayed for a judicial separation. There was no defence to the wife's suit, which was ta'xen first, In opening tho case, Mr. Xnderwick, Q. 0., said that the parties wrro married on Dec. 5, lS7li, and there wa? ono child of the marriage, a daughter, born in Augu»t, 1878. Without going into detail, it was only necessary to say that they did not live hapily together. Lord St. Leonards was a gocd deal away from home, and neglected his vrifo very much, in addition to which ho was exceedingly extravagant. lu May, ISSO, Lady St. Leonards left her husband, and she never since returned. In Marei, ISS2, Lord St. Leonards endeavoured to induce the lady to make some advances, she having a fortune in her own right; but this she declined to d \ and he afterwards instituted a puit for restitution of conjugal rights. That being served on the lady he also demanded the child. Sh° then did what she had not done before, hud inquiries made in order to see what course of life her husband had been leading. It was then found that lie had visited ck woman in Marylebone-road, with whom be bad undoubtedly committed adultery. Ladv St. Leonards, the petitioner, was then called, aud bore out the opening statement of counA female in court gave evidence as to having committed adultery with Lord St. Leonards, whom she had aeen in court that morning. There was no (fefence, and the grauted a decreo of judicial separation witb coats, and custody of the child at the suit of Lady St. Leonards.
