AUCKLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION. The second quarterly competition of the above association took place at the Mount Eden Rifle Range on December 16. It was arranged at the annual meeting tliat tmce quarterly competitions should take place previous to the next annual tiring, aud that the highest aggregate scorer in the whole of the matches "should be the recipient; of a valuable trophy or medal. I his is the second of the series, and has been delayed from time to time, owing to the departure of the representatives South. The third and last competition will in consequence take place in the early part of January, so that the whole of the competitions will be completed before the next annual firing of the association. The weather being favourable, some good shooting was made. The Wimbledon targets were used in this match, and appeared to give every satisfaction. The gentle- | men appointed to score were unavoidably detained in town, ami consequently Alessrs. ,T. \Y. Robinson aud J. B. Fairs filled the vacancies. There were four money prizes fiven in this competition, falling to the lot of- Ist, Volunteer Jas. jueigh ; :2nd, Sergeant Hav ; 3rd. Serjeant Taylor: aud 4th, Corporal J. 13. Fairs. The Government prize firing at Coromaudel took place 011 December 21, Major Withers being in command. For the firstclass, Sub-Lieutenant Gale took first prize, and Corporal Angus McXeil the second. In the second-class, Bandsman Williams was first, Volunteer Parkins second, and Volunteer Blair third.

The competition for the Auckland Naval Brigade Company's Belt was completed on 22ad December at the Mount Eden ritie range. The competition included two matches, the first of which was fired yesterday week, and the second was fired yesterday. The result was that Petty Officer F. Smith won the Belt, with a splendid score of 129 points out of a possible 150, and in yesterday's match he made the possible total at the 000 yards'rauge. The weekly parade of the brigade was held last night, when, in the absence of the captain, Lieutenant Parker presented the Insurance prizes won last month. There were twenty prizes, ranging from £2 19s and a silver star to Ss.
