THE KING PROPOSES TO MAKE A JOURNEY. TfROM OUR OWN CORKESrO.\'Dr.:-T.] Thk meeting of Tawhiao with tlie people of Kawhia took place on the Ist December. There were present the whole of the Kawhia chiefs, except Hone lu One j a!?n ) \\ lifimm Whareroa from Aottii ;iud Kauawa, aud several others from the southern side of Kawhia.

Tawuiao addressed the meeting as follows : —Listen to my words. I liuve three words for you to hear. The fir.-;-, !, jvt > ; the second, good feeling; atj<l thy third, faith. Show good feeling to stranger;; who may visit you at this place. t«p;-ak kindly to them. Do not show any unkhidiH'S.*-*, but show good feeling to strangers when they come to Kawhia. This is a very important word of mine to you. Retain this advice when I have tone from here. This is all I have to say in reference to this matter. (The strangers referred to by Tawhiao are Europeans who may go to Kawhia.) I have another word to you. This is the day on which I will travel through tin- inland. The only people I want to accompany me are the Kawhia chiefs residing between :irokopu and Waikato Heads on the coast. This is all. I want to start at once. I desire to remain in Alexandra on my arri ..l1 there one night, so you must all start with me at once. From Alexandra X intend proceeding to Aotearoa, thence to Taupo, thence to Rotoaira, thenqe to Manawatu aud Raugi tikei, thence to Otaki, thence along the coast towards Wellington, thence back to Wairarapa, thence to Napier, returning via Taupo to our homes. I do not want the inland (\Y hatiwhatihoe) chiefs to go with me. The tril.es I want to accompany me are:—Ngatiinahnta, from Kawhia ; Ngatimaniapoto, from Marokopa ; Ngati Hikairo, Ngafci Hani, from Aotea } Is'gatimahanga, Ngatihourua, Tainui, Ngatitahunga. The chiefs of these tribes alone, I desire to go with me. No one of you wi'll, on any condition, carry arms. Tiiat is all. Referring to his late meeting with Mr. Bryce, Tawhiao said, in private :—I do not think any the worse of Air. Bryce for his straightforward speaking, for he spoke as one man to the other, the o:ily thing I felt grieved about was his leaving me in the manner he did, for I think the least he could have done was to have shaken hands with me. Perhaps, however, this eccentricity is due to his European breeding.
