[Hocoiveil December 5/1.10 p m.] THE RAILWAY COLLISION. Melbouiixk, December 5. Mr. Thomson, the Hawthorn stationmaster, lias stated that he believed that tli<? special train from Vaux hall and the train from Melbourne should cross at Burnley-street, Richmond, a short distance beyond the scene of the collision. It appears, how] ever, that such crossing was not possible. A controversy is proceeding between certain railway officials regarding the time table. It is understood that there was a misprint in some of the tables, -which did not show that the special should stay at Hawthorn. It. appears there is no telegraph between Hawthorn and Burnley street. Public feeling strongly urges a complete change in the system of working the lines. The sufferers in the late railway accident are generally progressing favourablv. In addition to those already reported Matthew Wood is suffering from severe injury to the spine, and Littlewoort from serious internal injuries. The list published in one of the papers gives 132 names of persons ' injured, but includes many who have suffered but slightly. A requisition has been made to the Mayor of this city to call a public nieetiug for the purpose of considering the management of the Victorian railways. Ross and Co. of this city have sold consignments of kauri timber, ex Robin ilood and Laira at the following average prices at per 100 feet:—Superficial hewn logs, l(js ; ; sawn Hitches, 10s Oil ; sawn boards, 1-ineli, l'Js. Messrs. Ross also report the sa!o of a cargo of white pine timber, ex Circe. Sawn boards realised 1."5s '3d per 100 feet.
