Of the departures the < principal, excepting the steamers of tho Union i Steamship Company for Sydney and for Mel- s bourne, have been for the South Sea Islands, i Tho schooner Handa Me, with kauri gum, sailed on the 25th ultimo for New York. Her cargo of 134 toli3 is valued at £12,823. At present we have in port the ship Hermione (cleared out for London, wi:h a cargo valued at £17,405; of this wool contributes £12,045, kauri gum £15,324, cotton £4502), but she has been unablo to yet to sea consequent upon the difficulty experienced by Captain Roberts to obtain AB'a. She has now, however, her complement of men and 13 only waiting for a fair wind to sail. Tbe binju-j Loch Fleet and ship Margaret Galbraith have both almost finished discharging their inwaid cargoes, and tbe Loch TJrr, having finished her discharging, ia now lying in the stream awaiting orders as to future destination. This remark will also apply to the Loch Fleet and Margaret GalbrAith, as their future movements have not yet been decided upon. The birque Ashmore is on the berth loading for London, and it is confidently expected sho will bo ready for sea by tbe 20th instant. She has on board, up to date, 150 tons copra, 15 bales cotton, 443 bales flax, cases kauri gum, 240 tons manganese, 100 casks tallow, and 108» bales wool. The vessel will have a lull saloon, the cabins being almost all engaged already. Tho barque Laira is also on the berth for London, and ie expected to have quick despatch, the greater portion of her cargo being already engaged. ishe has just commenced to receive car S o, and has only on boird at present 75 cascß gum, 30 casks tallow Of the vessels expected .from London, tho WotherefieWe is now 105 days out, and therefore daily loeked for The Antares is 90 days out, and may also be fairly looked for during the present week, and the Border Chief left on tho 14th Septembar and is therefore 73 .lays out. The barque Wreas Rus, from Now York to tnis port, via L-iunceston, arrived at the Utter port on the 4th November. She should therefore bo on her way now for this port. Tho Gronsv:ier, also from New York to here, via Wellington, is now 152 days out. She should therefore be looked for at the lattor port daily. She is expected to return hence to New York with kauri gum. In tho local shipping trade tbe various vessels have been all fully employed principally in the timber and coal trade, both of which have been very brisk for some time back, and tho trade with the South flea Islauds has also been increasing rapidly. Daring tho past month 3 vessels sailed out for those Inlands, representing a tonnago of 692 tons. They all took full cargoes, and woll filled passenger lists. The fino vessels of the Union S.S. Co. have all been fully employed, and the quick- | nss3 and comfort in which passages can now be made have greatly tendod to increase tho passenger traffic. Their passenger lilts show arrivals at this port to havo been 434 aouls, and tho departures 298 souls during the past month. The steamers of our local company have also been fully and profitably employed, and we undarstand that the directors contemplate at an early dato the addition of ono or two moro steimers to their fleet to meet the increasing demands of the varions trades now engaged in.
