Throughout Saturday business was pretty brisk on the Auckland Cup and Steeplechase. Welcome Jack still retains his position as first favourite, and receives fair support, though he is mostly backed in the doubles. 500 to 10 was accepted about him and Chandler, by one of the knowing ones, who wanted the same wager again, but his request did not meet with a response. 500 to 15 was accepted about Hippodamia and New Year. The Poet came into favour for the Cup, and advanced to 100 to 10, and 500 to 25 was accepted about him and Canard Turquoise hardened a little, and the best price now to be obtained about the son of The Peer is 100 to 14, at which price he was nobbled up. 500 to 15 was accepted about him and Harkaway for the Cup and Steeplechase.
