THE WELLINGTON HOSPITAL.

+ [BY TELEGRAPH. —I"RE.SS ASSOCIATION , .] Wellington , , Saturday. The question of filling up the vacancy iu the post of resident surgeon to the Wellington Hospital, vacated by the resignation of Dr. Gillon, has been under the consideration of the Government. Before the Government had relieved the Wellington Corporation of the charge of the hospital, the City Council had advertised for applications for the appointment, offering a salary of £350 per annum, with rations and residence. Eight candidates applied for the position under those conditions, the applicants residing in nearly as many different parts of the colony, two, however, being Wellington residents. The Government huve come to the conclusion that a smaller salary would be sufficient, and have accordingly reduced the sum originally offered by £100, making it £250, with rations, residence, &c , instead of £350. Notice to this effect has been sint to the eight candidates, together with a request that they will state at once whether they desire their application still to hold good, notwithstanding the reduction of the salary offered. The appointment will not be definitely made until a sufficient interval shall have elapsed to allow time for replies to be received from the various applicants.
