BRUTAL MURDER OF A WIFE.
The inhabitants of the Passage de la Tiinite < (Paris), wers a few weeks ago put into a : state of consternation by a brutal murder < which occurred iu that part of the gay city. < Some few months ago, a young umbrella- ( maktr, named Meyer, and his wife took a t dwelling there. To all outward appearance £ tlio two lived very happily together ; but on '•■ Sunday last the police inspector for the St. * Denis district got a letter signed Meyer, s saying that, a fearful crime had been com- £ mitted in the P.issnge dolaTrinite. Though 1 he at first thought the thing to be a hoax, lie ( nevertheless took two policemen ind went to £ the place. The dnor of the house was fast, ' but they forced it opvn. On entering they i found the body of .Miulnmc Meyer on the <■ Led with her head cut oil - . An axe lay by < the bed all bloody, and it had no doubt been J the weapon used to kill the poor woman, l The husband has disappeared. '
