Tile regular meeting of the City Schools Cointnittfce waa held last evening at the .Jvekon-street school. Present : Mr. Schmidt (chairman), Messrs. Thwaites, Campbell, JlcXab, and. McMaster, Mr. Carr apologised feu" his unavoidable absence owing to an accident. District SciiOL\n.saiPS. — The Secretary of the Boanl of Education wrote stating that the Board proposed to hold the annual examination of candidates for district scholarships at the Wcl!cs!ey-atreet school on 4he 19th and two following days. The number of candidates for whom provision would be required was ]20, and the Bsard would feel obliged by the committee making t!;e usual arrangements aa in former years for this purpose. It was agreed that the committee instruct Mr. Worthingtou to carry out the arrangement as in previous years, r.nd that a reply be scut to the Bjard of Kducation, that their request would ba complied with. He could not understand it. The water was turned on for seven hours daily for five days of each week, or 420 honrs in the quarter, and the consumption, as charged for, was at the rate of 21 gallons per minute.—The Secretary said he had gone to the Borough Council Office on the subject, and the turncock was asked whether he had not made a mistake. Beriwkoiid-street Librarv.— The headmaster wrote stating that the net proceeds of the recent entertainment in aid of the library fund was £6, asking the committee to request the Board of Education to grant a similar amount in books or otherwise. It was agreed to make the application. Scholarship Pupils.—Mr. Brabazon reported that four pupils hai been prepared for scholarship examinations from his school, but only one had brought his certificate of age, and the others were disqualified.—The secretary was instructed to ascertain whether the candidates had been notified that They must bring tip their certificates of sge, and to request the Board to admit the three pupils to examination. Accounts.—A statement of accounts was submitted. There is £23 to the credit of the committee, and the outstanding liabilities amount to £60. There are two months to run before the committee will have any further funds available.—lt was agreed thn the chairman should interview the Board of Education on the subject.
