THE MATCH AT TIMARU. [BT TELIORAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION>3 Timari, Thursday. Tiik second day's play in the match between the Auckland and Timaru teams took place on the ground of the S.C. A. A. Club to-day. The attendance was good, and was a deal larger than yesterday, although there were not more than 300 persons on the ground at any time. About two p.m. the Timaru Eleven resumed their second innings. Hughes and Smith, the not-out men of yesterday, appeared at the -wickets, Robinson taking the bowling. After a maiden, Hughes, -who "was facing the bowling of Lankham from the east end ef the ground, commenced scoring. Smith ably followed his captain's example. Lankham, however, clean bowled Hughes in his next over : 3 —2—I. Eichbaum received the rest of the over from Robinson, and iSmith sot one awvy for a single. Eighteen appeared on the telegraph, and Bhortly after this O'Brien made a splendid drive to leg for 4, and after three more singles had been scored the required number of runs (26) appeared, the Auckland team thus winning the match by sir wickets. After the winning hit was made, the batsmen still kept on playing for the amusement of the spectators. The fielding of the local men was a great deal bettor than on the first day, and the bowling also showed a slight improvement. Eichbaum followed, and while Smith stonewalled, liis companion hit both bowlers right merrily, much to the delight of a small but select audience. Eichbaum was eventually bowled by a slow break back fioni the left-hander. Buckland relieved Robinson, and Lough joined Smith, aud quickly put together eight, when Lankham found his weak spot. King followed, and brought on Blair vies Buckland.
