THE ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION OF ARCHBISHOP GOULD.
[per s.s. akawata, at the bluff.] MELBOUBNi?, August 23. The attempted murder of Archbishop Gould by OTurrell, the solicitor, caused some sensation. The Archbishop acted with great coolness throughout, and fortunately escaped with slight injury. The shots were fired at a distance of about two yards. Many years ago O'Farrell was an influential member of the Catholic community, and the Archbishop's solicitor. Owing to litigation, ana his being cast in* heavy damages for running over and killing a man one night, he became insolvent, and hastily left the country for America, where he had been residing until a few months ago. He al.eges the Archbishop owes him moaey.
