POLICE COURT.— Monday. [Before Mr. A. Clements, J.P.] Drunkenness.—Six persons were mulcted in the customary penalties for being drunk. Ralph Lucaa pleaded not guilty, and the case against him was adjourned for evidence, and defendant was let out on his own recognizances. Breaking axd Entering.—John Ewards (alias Walker) and William Clarkson (alias Hyde, alias Smith, alias Swabey) were charged with feloniously breaking *nd entering the dwelling-house of David Archibald, and stealing therefrom two blankets, one coat, and one waistcoat, the property of the said David Archibald, at the Whaa, on the 6th of May. Sergeant Gamble asked for a remand until Thursday, as the prisoners had only been brought in from the Wade late on Saturday night, and it was impossible to have the witnesses, who lived about Henderson's Mill, present sooner. The adjournment was granted. Sunday Liquor Traffic—Michael Flynn was charged, on remand, with a breach of the Licensing Act, ISSI, by selling beer to Cecilia Rowe on his licensed premises, the Nottingham Castle Hotel, Abercrombiestreet, on Sunday, the 30th ultimo, the said Cecilia Rowe not being a bona fide traveller or a lodger at the hotel. Mr. Hesketh, who appeared for the defence, applied for an adjournment until next day, in order that it might be heard before two justicea. The adjournment was granted. Breach gf Beer Duty Act.—F. Clark Staff, of She Whangarei Hotel, was charged, on the information of the Collector of Customs, with a breach of the 19th section of the Beer Duty Act, by knowingly withdrawing beer from a cask -without destroying or defacing the stamp affixed thereon, and which said cask was, on the 2Sth April, ISS2, found on the Queen-street Wharf empty. Mr. Hudson Williamson, who appeared for the prosecution, said he had not been informed that the summons had been returned. The case was reminded, until next day to allow of inquiries being made.
