BUSH FIRE AT WHANGAROA.
During the last week a large bush fire has been raging at Kaeo, destroying a large quantity of valuable timber. In Mr. Snowden's bush alone 30,000 feet of squared logs were burnt, but he was fortunate enough to save a number of logs by rolling them away from the chips occasioned by squaring to a comparatively clear space. The fire is supposed to have been started by some men, who, after cooking their dinner, left their fire burning. Happily the fire is now extinct, and the alarm it caused allayed. The timber mill is again stopped, and a "fresh"is much longed for, though to all appearances it is as far off as ever.—[Own Correspondent, January 19.]
