Broker : | Mr. C, Alexander. The object of the proposed Company is to purchase the Mill, Plant, Freehold and Leasehold Bushes, &c., of the existing Mercury Bay Saw Mill Company, and extend the business now being carried on by them. The present Mercury Bay Saw Mill Company, now in full operation, has agreed to dispose of their ! Freehold and Leasehold land and bushes (having an I area of <4,000 acres), Mill, Plant, Booms, Tramways, •vc., for the suai of £16,000, also their Logs now cut, I Goods in Store, Homes and Bullocks at Oost, amounting approximately to £5000, making in all about I £24,000, FOR WHICH THEIR SHAREHOLDERS HATS AQREKD TO ACCEPT PAYMENT A3 FOLLOWS i— 27,000 Shares ih this Company at 12s 6d each PAID VP, SAY £16,875, AND THB BALANCE.IN CASH AS it is received, thus leaving £7000 of the proposed ! paid-up Capita] to be expended to further extend and : develop the business. j Notwithstanding the great extension of the timber I industry of late years, the demand for kauri timber, both in New Zealand and in the Australian colonies, is yearly increasing, and the fact of an extensive j system of public works being about to be commenced In New South Wales, will tend to largely increase the consumption of this staple. The advantages possessed by Mercury Bay .as a site for a sawmill are unsurpassed in the colony. Having ; a harbour accessible in all weathers to the largest ; class of traders, freights can be obtained either for I the South or the Australian colonies, at a trifling I I advance upon the Auckland harbour rates, thereby. 1 effecting a saving of the freight paid from mill to Auckland, and also the expenses and charges attending its re-shipment. The area of land held by the company, comprises about 44,000 acres, and is variously estimated to contain from 150 to 200 millions feet available kauri timber, and the facili ties for getting it to the mill in safety are not excelled by any establishment in the North Island. During the past few years the demand for dressed kauri has largely increased, and, notwithstanding tho great increase of machinery used for its production, the demand is still unsatisfied, and this company | believe that the profit upon the manufacture of rough | timber will bo largely supplemented by producing i dressed timber for shipment. 1 It may be mentioned that a locomotive engine for the tramway, and an additional planing-machine, have been ordered from the manufacturers, and may be expected to arrive shortly. A list of the various freehold and leasehold pro- ! perties of the company, with the estimated quantity of kauri, and the terms of lease may be seen at tbe office of the company. Groceries, &c.
