ONEHUNGA BOROUGH.
A meeting of Council in committee was held on Wednesday evening. Present: The [Mayor (Mr. Codlin), Messrs. Karle, Hartsett, Hills, Jackson, Kelaall, 'fapp and Waller.: The Mayor said they had met specially to consider matters connected with "the health of the town. He had taken the opportunity to consult with Dr. Philson, and found that, as the Local Board of. Health, "their powers were vory limited with regard to interfering with people who had infectious diseases in their houses. —Air. Jackson ■bowed, from the Health Act, that they bad iull power to deal with nuisances, but that •with reference to diseases, all their power "Was confined to the appointment of a "medical officer," if they saw fit: also, of dismissing him, and paying him remuneration, and all costs and charges for disinfection sad compensation, and that the "medical officer when appointed acted solely under the regulations of the Central Board.—Mr. Waller moved, "That Dr. Ssott be appointed ..-the medical officer," which was agreed to. Dr. !seott, .who was preseut, consented to act, and gave an explanation with regard to several of the fever cases. He also reported -ten more cases, making in all about thirty. At- present none were of a very serious nature, 'hut there' was every probability of " more being attacked.-—lt was agreed to recommend the payment allowed by the Act of 2s 6d £or.~ each case reported by medical practitioners.—On the motion of-Mr. Waller, the Council was also recommended to appoint an Inspector of Nuisances. —[Own Correspondent, J*ntuu7l9, J
