ONEHUNGA BUROUGH.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Monday evening. Present : The Mayor (Mr. Codlin), Messrs. Earle, Fleming, Hartnett, Hills, Jackson, Kelsall, and Tapp. Minutes and correspondence were read. Dog Registration.—The Mayor moved that the report of the Council in committee, fixing the fee for dogs at 10«, be adopted ; whereupon Mr. Tapp moved that the fee be reduced to 6s. The amendment was carried. The same councillors were present who had previously carried the 10s f«e, but in the interim one member had been induced to alter his mind, and now changed over to the lower rate. Public Baths.—Mr. Fleming moved the adoption of the report of a committee which recommended that the old wharf at the western arm of Geddea' Basin be closed in for a bathing place, and a dressing-room erected on the wharf at a cost not exceeding £10.—Mr. Jackson said it would be nothing but a dark, dirty hole, and objected to the expenditure of even £10 on such a useless and paltry affair. He moved an amendment or two, which were lost, and the motion wa3 carried by 7 to 1. Green-hill Reserve.—A letter from the Crown Lands Commissioner informed the Council that since the abolition of tho provinces this public recreation ground wag vested in the Governor.—Mr. Jackson moved, "That the necessary steps be taken to procure if possible a delegation of the control over this domain to the Council." Railway .Kares.—A letter was read from Mr. Sutton calling attention to a great disparity in the charges made for season tickets. —Mr. Jackson said the Council would only be justified in interfering in such a matter if they considered persons were thereby prevented or discouraged from coming to reside in Onehunga, and therefore moved, "That the Town Clerk first ascertain the correctness of the prices stated." Maim Road.—Application was ordered to be made to the Minister of Public Works for £300 for the repairs to this road.—[Own Correspondent.]
