The polling for tbia district took place at ( the Temperance-hall, AlWt-street. and was conducted by Mr. RawHnson. The canji- < dstes were Mr. T. Peacock an d Mr. SV. L. Reea. The proceedings -w ßro very orderly throughout the day. As ft, time for closing the poll arrived, a large tt ow d Lid collected about the hall, and when y, e r>Blllt was announced the street -was lined rith spectators. When the poll was dethere were several thousand people "Slsent. The result, as declared by the USuning Officer, was as follows :- ' Peacock... (larrard... Ivaa iJocin" Mr. Peacock at the head of the pflblf majority of 26 votes. The successfcic^MateMr Peacock briefly returned tanks from the door of the hall, and the itovrd thereupon dispersed.
