THE MINISTRY AND THE GOVERNOR.
[by telegraph.—from a correspondent.]
CnRISTCiiURCIi, Friday. Tub following letter from the Hon. Vf. Rolleston has been addressed to the Christchurch Press :— 11 In my speech at the Avon nomination I referred to a letter from Mr, Stout, which was published in one of the morning papers, but I spoke only in general terms. Respecting the latter part of that document Mr. Stout by means of some questions implies that the Ministry, or a member of it, had prior to the issue of the late proclamation to the West Coast natives, received information. that. Sir Arthur Gordon's return was then imminent, and that because of that information the issue of the proclamation vras hurried. I shall be obliged if you will allow me to state absolutely that neither the Ministry as a whole nor any member of it, had up to the time when the Gazette containing the proclamation was published received information that the Governor's speedy return might be expected, that, in fact, no intelligence as to the Goverrors movements, actual or intended, had been received by the Government or by any Minister, from the time His Excelleacy left Auckland for Fiji until he returned to Wellington."
Frederick Aaliton Lincoln, agent, Auckland, has filed a statement of insolvency, and a first meeting of his creditors is Uxed for the 10th instant, at uoon, Mr. 0. Mays has made reductions in the omnibus fare between Devonport and Lake Taltapuna. An error occurred in the paragraph in yesterday's issue relative to the prospectus of the St. Helier's Land, Building, and Investment Company, which appears in another column. The capital is £50,000, in shares of £6 each, payable bv 10s (not £1) on application, 10s (not £i) on allotment, and the balance as the directors may direct.
