THAMES NEWS

[from our own correspondent.] Thames, Thursday. TE AROHA. Accounts to lianil from the new find at To Arolia are encouraging. Prospecting is being continued along the line of reef, and gold has been met with a considerable distance away from the locality of Hone Werahiko's find. The cutting of the track along the side of the creek, at the head of which the new discovery is situated, will do much towards assisting the development of the locality. The contract for this work has been let and should be completed within six weeks. WAIHI. There is very little fresh news to band from this district. One or two contracts for driving have recently been let, and these are now being carried out. Mr. H. H. Adarnß is busily engaged upon the Waihi Company's battery, and should have the erection of the building well forward ere long. A trial crushing from one of the lodes intersected in this company's claim was completed last week at the Owharon. battery, and produced nearly an ounce per ton. The quantity crushed was about five tons, from which 407.9. lodwts. retorted gold was obtained. The trial parcel from the Young Colonial claim has not yet been completed. WAITEKAURI. In this district mining matters are again looking more promising. In the Waitekauri mine what is believed to be another run of gold has been met with, which is likely to give a large block of valuable ground to work upon. The quartz has been estimated to produce from 2ozs. to 4ozs. per ton. In the Waitekauri No. 3 mine it is supposed the drive has got off the lode, and consequently the results have not been so good as was anticipated a short time ago. It is confidently expected, however, that the lode will be picked up again shortly. In the Waitekauri Extended claim, a promising leader has been intersecting the quartz from which prospects well. A nice looking leader has also been cut in the Hawk ground. The Just-in-Timc crosscut is being pushed ahead as fast as possible, and should be into the lode shortly. It is intended if possible to have a trial crashing out of the lode in this claim before Christmas. Work is in progress in several other claims in this district.
