CORRESPONDENCE.

CAS NUISANCE. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As the sanitary authorities are taking proceedings against the nuisances of the city, it is full time that they take some steps to runove the monster nuisance of ihe place - tlio gas manufactory. Yesterday was made almost unscalable by the poisonous fumes it poured forth, creating both sickucss and headachua night ami day. Had the gas manufactory been carried on by small owners there would have been fifty summouses taken out before this ; but ic being a. monopoly, and the share owners living out of town, they arc quite indifferent how the district is poisoned. It is a question how far the Council is doing its duty in allowing such a dangerous manufactory to be established in the centre of a large population, and the storage of an immense bulk of gas within a few feet of extensive stacks of timber. Had not the late fire at the timber yard been fortunatelyearly discovered and extinguishe.l, there was nothing to prevent its communication with the gas, aud the loss of life might have been deplorable.—l am, &c\, November 27. Prevention.
