David Bruce have consulted with him about the propriety of contesting the election for Eden, and he ha* consented not to oppose Mr. Wood and will be placed in nomination for one of the city electorates, probably City West Had Mr. Bruce come forward at once after Mr J. M. Clark declined to contest the seat for Eden, and before Mr. Wood had announced himself, there is no roubt he would biv« received a generous support. I Mr. Tole anuouueed his iutontion "to fight to the bitter end." This developed additional warmth. A diversion was introduced in respect to the "Land League meeting"in Wei. lington, which intensified the excitement still further. However, the meetiug carried a vote of confidence in Mr. Tole amidst a good de\l of uproar and in the face of a protest by some of these present. Mr. W. L. Rees expresses his intention of addressing the electors of Auckland North it the Theatre Royal to-morrow night at 3 o'clock. An important decision affecting electoral matters was made to-day by Mr. lVjvtick, R.M., who decided in the case of Kγ. Weston Worthington, who was proved to have obtained registration on the Wakairci electoral roll although he had not complied with the residential qualification, having only resided in the district some five months: that under the 2Sth section of the Act he had no power to strike his name off the roll, notwithstanding the misrepresentation, as the Act prescribed this could only be dona in the case of death, or the written consent ot the person registered. The nomination for the- Wakanui seat takes place on Friday, and for Ashburton the day following. Mr. O'Reilly, the candiilaie in the former, broke his collar bone hj being throwu from his horse on Saturdaj night, whilst riding to Kakaia to address tha electors. Christchurch, Wednesday. The nominations for Cheviot, St. Albam, Akaroa, aad Lincoln take plaee to-morrow. TIitARU, Wednesday. The Dominations for Gladstone take place to-morrow.
