A requisition is in course of signature asking Mr. Paul Coffey to stand for Scuth Wellington. A Bicycle Club has been formed here, and the members meet on Saturday for the purpose of having a spin. Mr. Carey's opera troupe closed a most successful three weeks' season here last night. The company left for Napier this evening. It has been blowing a strong N.W. gale for the past two days. The s.s. Hinemtm leaves for Opunake tomorrow, taking 100 Armed Constabulary. NELSON, Friday. At a parade of the Artillery last night, between -10 and 60 were present, aud all offered their services in case of being required, and unconditionally. The Artillery, Navals, and City Rifles have now offered their service?, with the exception of one man. CIIRISTCHURCII, Friday. At the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday George Rowley, arrested on warrant from Duncdin for bigamy, was remanded till to-morrow. Frederick Lane, for stealing nineteen copper boilers, the property of S. Nashelski, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court. At Christ's College sports yesterday, a challenge cup, for the greatest number of points, was won by W. P. Studholme. It is reported here that Colonel Lyon and Colonel Pack suggested that the Lyttclton Naval Brigade should volunteer for active service at Parihaka, but the latter did not think the inducements oflered were good enough, and refused. ASHBURTON, Friday. At the Magistrates' Court this morning, Charles Ryland, on remand, was committed for trial on two separate charges of obtaining goods by means of valueless cheques. A third charge of a similar nature broke down in consequence of its being shown that the cheque had not been presented for payment at the bank.

DUNTROON, Friday. The Duntroon Jockey Club races were held to-day. Maiden Plate : Yaldliurst's Clifford, 1; Shepherdess, 2; Rake, 3. Five started. It was won easily. Trotting Race : Mooney, 1 ; Agent, 2 : Charles, 3. Duntroon Cup : Coldstream, 1 ; Swagsman, 2; Little John, 3. The Novel Race was a walk-over for Tommy. TIMARU, Friday. The annual training of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry was brought to a close to-day, by a grand review by Colonel Paeke. The movement were witnessed by several thousand people, a half holiday being observed for the occasion. The northern contingent leave for home tomorrow. DUNEDIN, Friday. There has been a very strong north-west gale blowing here all day. Several bush fires in the vicinity of the town have occurred. So far, it is not known whether much damage has been done. At the Supreme Court, to-day, the action of McLeod v. Reeves, claim £2000, for malicious prosecution, was tried. The circumstances which led to the action arose out of the scene at the close of the Dunedin Exhibition, when some wine was taken, and, by the authority of the committee, MeLeod was prosecuted for larceny. The result of the trial was a nonsuit of the plaintiff, on the ground that he had not proved insufficient cause for the original prosecution. There are 26 incurable patients in the Dunedin Hospital at the present time. A deputation from the Hospital Committee waited an the Hon. Mr. Dick yesterday, to ask assistance in establishing a separate institution for them, but no determination was come to, except that the Government in the meantime would authorise the committee to pay for the maintenance of such patients by their friends wherever this can be arranged. A telegram from Greymouth received in Dunedin, sajs the steamer Woipara has returned from the search for the missing schooner Owake, having had no success. In the bush fires to-day at Pine Hill, several hundred cords of wood were destroyed ; also the dwelling-house owned by Mr. Barrett, and another settler's log-hut. There were no insurances.
